In industrial environments, reliable communication is not just about convenience. High noise levels, dust, moisture, vibration, large distances, and harsh operating conditions can make everyday communication difficult – exactly where fast and clear information is often most important.

Orcana , developed by Telegrafia, is a next-generation industrial intercom designed for reliable communication in demanding and noisy environments. It combines powerful audio, rugged construction, modern connectivity, and flexible control options in one device, helping workers and operators stay connected across industrial facilities.

Reliable Communication Where Standard Solutions Are Not Enough

Production machinery, crushers, conveyors, heavy vehicles, and other industrial equipment can generate significant background noise. In these conditions, conventional communication devices may struggle to provide sufficient voice intelligibility.

Orcana is designed to deliver loud and clear voice communication even in noisy environments. A powerful integrated speaker, the option to connect an external speaker, advanced noise and echo cancellation (ANC/AEC), and automatic volume adjustment according to ambient noise help ensure that important messages can be heard and understood.

Its rugged IP65 industrial design provides protection against dust and water, while an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +70 °C makes Orcana suitable for demanding indoor and outdoor applications.

The intercom can be used for communication between workstations, calling operators, voice announcements, operational instructions, or requesting assistance. Depending on the configuration, it can also support access control and the operation of doors, gates, locks, signaling devices, and other connected equipment.

One Industrial Intercom, Many Demanding Applications

Orcana is designed for industrial environments where noise, dust, distance, or difficult operating conditions make communication challenging.

A particularly strong application is mining, quarrying, and the extractive industry. Surface and underground mines can combine extreme dust, vibration, moisture, heavy machinery noise, and remote locations. Orcana can provide a dedicated communication point at crushing and screening lines, loading areas, conveyors, technological workstations, or other locations where workers need to communicate with operators and control rooms.

Similar conditions can be found in cement plants, lime plants, and aggregate processing facilities. Crushers, kilns, conveyors, and material handling systems create extremely dusty and noisy environments, while individual workstations may be spread across a large industrial site. A rugged industrial intercom allows communication points to be positioned directly where workers need them.

Communication Across Large and Remote Industrial Sites

Tunnels and underground infrastructure bring another set of communication challenges. In road and railway tunnels, tunnel construction sites, or underground technological areas, Orcana can support communication between workers and operators, requests for assistance, operational instructions, and emergency communication procedures.

Large distances are also a major factor in ports and cargo terminals. Container handling equipment, loading and unloading operations, warehouses, and bulk material handling areas can create high levels of background noise across extensive sites. Industrial intercoms can be installed at strategic locations to improve coordination between workers, operational teams, gates, and control points.

Orcana is equally suitable for steel mills, metallurgical plants, and foundries, where machinery noise and extensive production areas require dependable communication between operators and control rooms. Other applications include power plants and energy facilities, railway depots and freight terminals, large automated warehouses, logistics centers, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and water management facilities.

It can also support communication in oil and gas, chemical, and petrochemical facilities, depending on the requirements of the particular installation. For potentially explosive or otherwise specially classified areas, the suitability of the selected Orcana configuration must always be evaluated according to the required certifications and site conditions.

Across these industries, the objective is the same: to give workers a reliable and easily accessible communication point directly in the operational environment, even when that environment is noisy, dusty, remote, or otherwise demanding.

Flexible Communication and Integration

Every industrial site has different requirements, which is why Orcana is available in three configurations: wall-mounted, desktop, and distributed. Each version is designed for a different type of installation and working environment.

 Wall-mounted version

A flexible solution for industrial and outdoor environments. The wall-mounted Orcana can be configured according to the specific requirements of the site, including the number of large mechanical buttons, user authorization options such as an RFID reader, GSM communication, as well as the speaker and microphone setup. This makes it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications and operating conditions.

 Desktop version

Designed for convenient communication in control rooms, gatehouses, operator stations, and other workplaces where the intercom needs to remain within easy reach. The desktop version is available with 8 or 16 buttons with two-colour LED indication, providing operators with clear and intuitive control.

Distributed version

When the intercom needs to adapt to the technology rather than the other way around. The distributed version can be integrated directly into walls, control panels, kiosks, stands, or technological equipment. Its low installation depth makes integration easier even where available space is limited.

Depending on the configuration, Orcana supports LAN with VoIP as well as 4G LTE / 2G GSM connectivity, making it suitable both for facilities with established network infrastructure and for remote locations where fixed connectivity may not be available.

Orcana can operate as a standalone industrial intercom or as part of the aSCADA® system. Within aSCADA®, it can serve as a remote communication and control unit or as a powerful external loudspeaker for voice announcements, extending its role beyond standard intercom communication.

Binary inputs and relay outputs allow integration with external switches, sensors, doors, gates, electromagnetic locks, or signaling devices. Flexible power options, including PoE, AC, and DC, further simplify installation across different industrial environments.

By combining robust construction, powerful audio, flexible connectivity, and integration capabilities, Orcana provides a communication solution designed around the realities of modern industrial operations.

When the environment gets demanding, communication needs to remain clear, fast, and reliable.
