In some cases, it is not stipulated by law; however, the building of the system is included in action plans and also in research and development projects. Seconds to minutes of advance warning can allow people and systems to take actions to protect life and property.
Effectivity of Early Warning and Notification Systems
Disasters lead to great destruction in terms of economy and human lives. They often take place in the vicinity of human communities and, many times they are caused by humans (e.g. leakage in an oil pipeline or gas production, or industrial explosions) or by nature (earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, lightning, floods or fires). The system is designed to detect an impending danger and send a clear warning signal to the right place at the right time.
The education and public awareness are important to improve the existing situation in the field of early warning and notification systems.
