About the Solutions Series
Today, we are introducing a new type of story to readers who just cannot wait for the next post: the Solution Series. Articles will represent a complex series of solutions in which early warning and notification systems are needed. The Series will contain valuable information about the use of early warning and notification during various types of natural disasters, but also for civil defence and military purposes, and industrial premises.
Importance of Early Warning and Notification Systems
The need for an early warning and notification system is obvious and repeatedly emphasised by researchers. In some cases, it is even a statutory obligation. The duty of building and maintaining an early warning system is treated in many ways worldwide: either it is obligated at regional (China and the EU), national or sub-national level, or treated by directives. In some cases, it is not stipulated by law; however, the building of the system is included in action plans and also in research and development projects. Seconds to minutes of advance warning can allow people and systems to take actions to protect life and property.
Effectivity of Early Warning and Notification Systems
Disasters lead to great destruction in terms of economy and human lives. They often take place in the vicinity of human communities and, many times they are caused by humans (e.g. leakage in an oil pipeline or gas production, or industrial explosions) or by nature (earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, lightning, floods or fires). The system is designed to detect an impending danger and send a clear warning signal to the right place at the right time.
The education and public awareness are important to improve the existing situation in the field of early warning and notification systems. Many years of experience with various solutions worldwide has given us a solid foundation for writing the Solutions Series. We hope that it will facilitate the process of your decision making when seeking the right early warning and notification solution.
